92,000 Robots Drawn on Dominos Create Contagious Compassion with Gary Hirsch (Episode #159)

Need a little reminder to summon up some courage, joy, hope or kindness? Artist Gary Hirsch has created 92,000+ hand-drawn robots on the back of dominos that are helping people all over the world get through challenging moments. Gary is also an expert in helping us use the art of “improvisation” to work through challenging moments that could use some fun and creativity. Maybe both areas of expertise are connected. In this episode, you’ll find out how!

About Our Guest:

Botjoy is the creation of Portland Oregon artist Gary Hirsch. This project has expanded so wildly that on the Botjoy website, Gary now invites (and even instructs) people on how to steal the ideas to help it grow!

Gary painted his first little robot on the back of a domino in 2010. The dominoes have become a wonderful kind of talisman in the hands of people all over the planet who use them to find their best selves: in challenging moments, large and small. There are children in hospitals who use these delightful little bits to be brave, adults who use them to cope with dreadful circumstances, and others who just need a little reminder of the most resourceful emotions available to them.

But that’s just one part of the way Gary Hirsch is spreading joy and wonder. He is also the artist behind Botjoy murals in cities throughout the world: Madrid, New Orleans, Boulder, Portland, and others.

And if that wasn’t enough, Gary is also the co-founder of On Your Feet, a creative consultancy that uses interactive experiences like “improvisation” to help organizations such as Nike, Intel and Disney communicate, relate, and create with more joy and less fear.

In this episode of the Conspiracy of Goodness Podcast, you’ll learn about one man’s journey to offer his gifts to the world in a way that creates more fun and light-hearted connections. But you might also find food for thought when you consider your own gifts!

Gary’s got many positive ideas he is encouraging the world to steal, so let this episode be the start of your own wonder-full journey!
