About Our Guest:
In the dynamic landscape of media and entrepreneurship, few figures stand out as distinctly as Cheldin Barlatt Rumer. As the founder and CEO of the This Is It Network, Rumer has created a platform that not only entertains, but also empowers, educates, and connects to a diverse audience.
Her journey is a testament to her multifaceted talents as a speaker, consultant, and media entrepreneur, and we were honored to have her as a guest on our Happiness Workshop not long ago. In this episode of the Conspiracy of Goodness Podcast’s Summer Series, we bring back that wonderful workshop, in which Rumer gave the Goodness Exchange community.a comprehensive guide on networking, finding your niche, creating the success you can envision for yourself, and more—all of it based in her years of experience and success with her own ventures.
Cheldin Barlatt Rumer: CEO, Producer, and Philanthropist
Under Rumer’s visionary leadership, the This Is It Network has blossomed into a vibrant digital TV network that emphasizes storytelling and creating authentic connections. Their motto, “Scream Your Dream,” encapsulates Rumer’s mission to amplify voices and share stories that inspire and motivate others—especially women and minorities, whose voices are heard less often.
In addition to her media achievements, Rumer is actively involved in various philanthropic efforts. She uses her platform to support causes related to women’s empowerment, education, and community development. She is also a sought-after speaker and consultant, renowned for her ability to inspire and transform audiences.
Her commitment to giving back further solidifies her reputation as a leader who not only talks the talk, but walks the walk—and she was generous enough to teach all of us something about walking that walk, too.
Networking: Tedious, But SO Worth It
One thing Cheldin shares with us the significance of networking and building meaningful relationships. She teaches that successful networking goes beyond collecting contacts; it’s about cultivating genuine relationships that can lead to the creation of a beautiful and supportive community.
Yes, you might feel a little strange and empty after going to any one given networking event, eating dry carrots, and pitching your business to thirty people at a time and going home without any real leads—but that’s normal. What you have to remember is that putting yourself out there is the most important thing. People can’t find you if they don’t know who you are—but if you make a strong introduction and are clear and confident about what you do, they may remember you when they need you, or pass your info on to someone who does.
Networking is rather aptly named; it’s about casting a net that gets you working. Sometimes, the things you bring back in the net don’t seem all that useful in the moment, but you never know when they’ll come in handy.
Personal Branding Is Not Just a Buzzword (If You Do It Right)
Rumer is also a strong advocate for the power of personal branding, and the narratives that follow us through our professional and personal lives. She believes that leveraging our unique personal stories is the key to creating a personal narrative that others will want to connect with.
You may not think your story is important, but after listening to Cheldin, you will know otherwise.
You have inherent value, and there is nobody else in the world who is exactly like you. Therefore, it stands to reason that there is also someone out there who is looking for the exact thing that you have to offer. The thing is, if you’re obscuring that with layers of branding persona or trying to fit yourself into a pre-existing mold, you may never make that connection.
Cheldin encourages us to be ourselves as authentically and loudly as possible; only then will we discover the thing that we are uniquely built to contribute to the world.
Empowerment and Motivation: Scream Your Dream
One of Rumer’s core messages is empowerment. She encourages individuals, especially women, to take charge of their dreams and “scream” them out loud. Her insights are more than inspiring—they are pure practical advice.
Similar to her advice on networking, she reminds us that people can’t help you achieve your dreams if they don’t know you have them. You never know what random connections you can make that might change everything—maybe your cousin’s wife is a player in the very industry you’re looking for a job in; maybe your best friend’s uncle has been looking for businesses like yours to invest in; perhaps an old friend from high school was just scouring the internet for your exact services.
The point is, you have to put yourself out there—and ‘yourself’ means the most authentic, inspired version of who you are. You hear a lot about people telling you that you have to give 110% to make it—you have to post every day, always trying to top yourself, never be satisfied with your level of success—but Cheldin disagrees.
What’s most important is to make sure that whatever you give, it’s 100% you. As long as you Scream Your Dream with that in mind, the right people will hear you.
As you listen through this workshop, try to think about what it is that you want, and the unique things that make you uniquely qualified to get it. What makes you the best at what you do? Keep whatever it is at the top of your mind, and by the end, you’ll walk away feeling much more confident in your ability to get what you want from your life.
