Have you been feeling stagnant or bored lately? Perhaps you’re burnt out by adulting, or your Friday night routine of crossword puzzles and a movie in your pajamas just isn’t bringing you the joy that it once did. Whatever the scenario, you just haven’t felt much excitement lately. You’re not alone.
So, how do we reignite our zest for life when it feels like life’s most exciting adventures are behind us? Let’s absorb a little inspiration from a group of working Moms who turned a forgotten dream into a mid-life miracle!
First, how did we get here?
If you’re not feeling yourself, give yourself some grace.
Studies show that 20% of people 55 years or older experience some type of mental health issues including anxiety, and depression. Mothers, in particular, are the most likely to put their own interests last because they are so busy caring for others and keeping up with their families’ busy schedules. 1
But there is good news, Folks! Studies also show that taking up a new hobby can improve your mental health, no matter which stage of life you’re in. Some of the benefits include reduced stress, improved social connection, and reduced blood pressure, and an overall mood boost! 2
If there is something you’ve always wanted to try, consider this article as your official permission slip to get out there and give it a whirl. Here’s a great example of something remarkable that can come as a result of allowing yourself the chance to dive into that new hobby…
Meet the Lazy Susans!
Sometimes it takes a little ennui to realize that you are ready to take a big leap, and that’s exactly where the story of the Lazy Susans began.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, a group of five working Moms from Milton, Massachusetts had more time than usual to think about a common dream that had never been realized. These ladies wanted to rock out!
How do a bunch of people with no musical experience start a rock band?
They just went for it.
These hard-working mothers dedicated themselves to gathering in a basement on a regular basis and began writing their own music, proving that you’re never too old to try something new…and even excel at it!
Check out this sweet video by 60 Second Docs to see how the Lazy Susans’ infectious enthusiasm catapulted them into a world of opportunities they had never thought possible.
Pretty cool, hunh? You just never know who you are going to inspire when you embrace life and try new things.
I love to see the joy amongst the crowds of people watching these women play. I have no doubts that their fans see a bit of themselves in the Lazy Susans, and are able to channel that inspiration into something in their own lives. Clearly their story has struck a chord with others because rumor has it that there is even a movie in the works about the Lazy Susans! 4

When your passion shines through, others will recognize it too and begin rooting for you—So don’t be afraid to put yourself out there!
Keep dreaming, and notice the beauty around you,
